My client is asking about strategies to rapidly increase their Instagram presence. They've brought up the idea of buying followers to quickly hit a certain numerical milestone. From a marketing perspective, I'm concerned about how this would skew our analytics. If our engagement rate plummets due to fake followers, it makes it impossible to accurately assess content performance or build effective future campaigns. Has anyone dealt with this directly? How do you explain the long-term damage to a client who only sees the numbers?

I agree that it messes with analytics, but sometimes clients are focused on vanity metrics. You can explain the risks of engagement and purges. Maybe suggest a very small, one-time purchase to get them over a specific number (e.g., from 900 to 1k) if they're really insistent, but emphasize that it's a temporary cosmetic fix, not a growth strategy. Then, immediately pivot to a robust organic plan. Frame it as a "starter boost" that requires significant real effort afterward. It's a tricky balance, but sometimes you have to compromise a little to steer them in the right direction.
